Befuddled as I am, this what I remember (other George Washingtonians may want to weigh in)...It was during our first heat race, when our brother, nearly 7 feet tall!, who was rowing in the port waist, Bit deeep into the water upon the race start, to deeep for the paddle bladed oar! The Oar ...snapped...in two causing our boat to lurch starboard and that was the end of the races for us. We were the Red team sponsored by; Retail Store Employees Union Local 373. We were racing the Henry, Haddock, Marine Corps Barracks M.I., & CSTSC M.I.. Oh yeah, the date was 8 Oct 1977.
